Mission Statement
The Tiffin Community Non-Food Pantry exists to provide personal and household resources to needy individuals in Tiffin and Seneca County that are not available through other programs.
The pantry is open on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 11:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. We distribute a quarterly flyer listing the upcoming pantry schedule for posting at the Salvation Army, Tiffin First Call for Help, and other agencies, schools, and churches throughout Seneca County. Though the pantry initially operated inside the First Presbyterian Church building, now the items are pre-bagged and are handed to people as they drive up in City Lot 6 beside the church, the number of bags depending on household size.

The Tiffin Community Non-Food Pantry, located at First Presbyterian Church in Tiffin (FPC), began serving residents of Tiffin and Seneca County in 2018 following recognition that individuals in financial distress have difficulty obtaining essential personal hygiene and household supplies because those items are not covered under government subsidy programs such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Women, Infants and Children (WIC).
On its first day in October 2018, the pantry served 51 households and 114 individuals. The numbers grew through most of 2019, peaking at 77 households and 235 individuals in October. As of November 2021, the numbers served had reached a new high in October 2021 of 77 households (as in 2019) and 200 individuals (the most since October 2019).

From its inception in 2018 through November 2021, the pantry had served more than 600 households and over 1,600 individuals residing in Tiffin, Attica, Bascom, Bellevue, Bettsville, Bloomville, Burgoon, Clyde, Fostoria, Grand Rapids, Green Springs, Kansas and Republic.
In 2021 alone through early November, the pantry served 248 households and 689 unique individuals, and additional households were continually added. A few households participate frequently but most attend only once or for a few weeks or months,
perhaps during times of temporary need.

A pantry board administers all aspects of the pantry under the oversight of FPC’s mission and evangelism committee.
Headed by Pastor Katie Treadway, the board includes (as of November 2021) representatives from another church,
three other community members, and seven FPC members.
More than 32 volunteers assisted with the pantry in 2021 alone, including over 20 FPC members and over 12 from the community. Some volunteers “gave back”, having used the pantry themselves.
The pantry is sustained through grants and donations by individuals and community organizations. Community drives have always been important to the success of the pantry. Successful drives were conducted in 2021 by All Saints Parish in New Riegel, Faith United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Seneca County Opportunity Center, Tiffin’s “9-11 Drive”, and Tiffin Kiwanis.
Other than some minor administrative supplies and small prizes for pantry drive competitions, one hundred percent of all funds received for the pantry are spent on products for the pantry participants. The pantry board is cost-conscious, constantly searching for the best prices and for donations from additional businesses and organizations. All Community Non-Food Pantry funds are deposited in a dedicated checking account and are not comingled with the church’s operating funds.
